The Complete PetCozy Pet Bed Size Guide

How to choose the perfect bed, cushion, sofa or pillow for your dog or cat — and the supplies that go with it.

Why Size Matters

A pet bed that's too small can leave your dog or cat curled up uncomfortably, restricting natural sleeping positions and reducing the calming benefits of a cozy bed. A bed that's too large, on the other hand, won't provide the secure, “hugged” feeling that helps ease anxiety and promote restful sleep. Choosing the right size is the single most important factor in making sure your pet actually loves and uses their new bed.

Step 1: Measure Your Pet

For the most accurate fit, measure your pet while they're lying down in their favorite sleeping position — whether that's curled into a ball or stretched out flat.

What to Measure

Length: From the tip of the nose to the base of the tail (stretched out).

Width: Across the widest part of the body, usually the shoulders or hips.

Curled diameter: For dogs and cats that sleep curled up, measure the diameter of the curled position.

Weight: Use your pet's current weight, not their target or puppy weight.

Pro Tip

Always add 4–6 inches (10–15 cm) to your pet's measurements to allow room for stretching, growing, and natural movement.

If your pet is between two sizes, choose the larger size for maximum comfort.

Step 2: Find Your Bed Size

Use the chart below as a general guide. Sizes may vary slightly by product — always check the specific product page for exact dimensions.

Step 3: Choose the Right Bed Type

Beyond size, the style of bed should match your pet's age, health needs, and sleeping habits.

Calming Donut / Cushion Beds

Best for pets who like to curl up. The raised, plush rim creates a sense of security that can help ease anxiety and encourage deeper sleep. Ideal for anxious pets, small breeds, and cats.

Orthopedic Beds & Sofas

Best for senior pets, larger breeds, or pets with joint pain, arthritis, or hip dysplasia. Supportive memory-foam-style cushioning relieves pressure on joints and helps with mobility.

Orthopedic Pillows

A flatter, supportive option for pets who like to stretch out fully, or for placing inside crates, on furniture, or in the car.

Step 4: Sizing Other PetCozy Essentials

Once you've found the right bed, here's how to size other commonly paired pet supplies.

Care & Maintenance Tips

Most PetCozy covers unzip for easy machine washing on a cold, gentle cycle.

Air dry or tumble dry on low — avoid high heat, which can damage filling and fabric.

Fluff and reshape cushions weekly to maintain loft and support.

Inner cushions and orthopedic foam inserts should not be machine washed; spot clean only.

Replace beds every 12–18 months, or sooner for heavy chewers or pets with allergies.
